Tano Hagodangan : A Series of Obscure Landscapes
2021
Prints, Photobook

Tano Hagodangan (in Bataknese)

meaning ; the land where I was raised / born

Tano Hagodangan is a series of work that stemmed from my attempt of investigating the feelings of obscurity and unfamiliarity that I encountered during a trip back to my hometown. It was done during a period where massive lockdowns were implemented, unprecedented shifts happened. In the midst of it all, I find myself questioning why ‘home’ doesn’t feel like ‘home’.

Creating this project was one of the ways I expressed my emotions. Documenting the memories through images and strings of words, feelings of grief and depression, a futile process to look for that yearning state. And how I seemingly reached a compromise between myself and what home is now.

This project accumulated to be a series of images, accompanied with poems and a photo book.
